Dr. Michael Wong of the Princeton Eye Group is well known for his worldwide humanitarian outreach. As part of that outreach, Dr. Wong collaborated with an international aid organization to restore a 16-year-old girl's sight.
At age six, the young girl experienced a traumatic eye injury. Inadequate medical care, a dry climate and a suspected underlying eye disorder left her severely handicapped by her vision.
After reviewing her story, Dr. Wong decided to take the case pro bono and perform the transplant surgery free of charge. The Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley provided tissue for Dr. Wong's procedure.
Within one week of her procedure, the child was able to significantly recover activities of daily living she had missed out on for many years.
